Day 1

Today was my first day on the Total Body Makeover plan by Bob Greene. I know I said I was doing Southbeach, but I decided that my main problem is not the food, it is the exercise. Bob Greene is Oprah's trainer and he has written several books about nutrition and fitness which all stem from his idea that in order to lose weight and keep it off you have to love yourself.

I know I have posted about this before, but I don't think I actually believed it. When I think of "loving myself" I think "am I happy with the person I am?" My answer to this question is "yes, I think I am a decent person..but I could be better physically." Loving youself means inside and out, and I definitely do not love the outside.

Greene's book talks in detail about the reasons people are overweight, number one being "emotional eating".

I AM AN EMOTIONAL EATER.

Admiting there is a problem is the first step right? I eat when I am bored, happy, sad, depressed, lonley, you name it. I don't necissarily eat bad things, but I do eat when I am not hungry. As Bob says, I was eating to fill what was eating me instead of eating to nourish my body."

The twelve week plan is formed to jumpstart your metabolism and build a strong exercise habit. Today was the first day of my twelve weeks. I am looking at this as a journey to physical as well as mental healthiness.

Excuses, Excuses

I know that I said I would post results for the week today, but I am unable to weigh myself right now. I went to work yesterday afternoon and I am still here. I will not be able to go home and SLEEP until around noon. Yes, that is a 22 hour shift with no sleep. People who don'twork in healthcare do not have this problem. Their job doesn't require them to be there 24/7 and alert. Healthcare professionals often are mandated by the state to stay if a co-worker calls in sick. This is what happened to me. Oh well, the overtime will be nice!
