In-service Days

Tomorrow the children will arrive. My mentor teacher and I have spent the past two days preparing the classroom for them. I am really excited to experience the first few days of school with them, but I am also nervous.
When I started back on Monday, I came home frustrated. I spent the day with the Old Town faculty and came away with nothing but negative comments. None of them wanted to be back at school and all they could do was complain about the current issues in their school. Being a student teacher and new to the field, I went in bright-eyed and egar to learn. What I got was a bunch of veteran teachers telling me to find another career.
I certainly hope that things get better when the kids come. I met a few today and they seem very bright and excited about third grade.
Quote for the day comes from a student who is reluctant to write because he "hates the way a pencil feels, like flossing teeth with yarn."
My mom thinks I should start a regular journal so that I can remember all the funny and special moments from my teaching career. Maybe I will publish it!

A New Beginning

My last day at camp was Friday and tomorrow is my first day as a student teacher. Monday and Tuesday are teacher inservice days and the kids return on Wednesday. I am nervous and hope that I do a good job.
Matt and I went to Phyllis' house today and she gave me a bunch more teacher resources. She was a teacher who is now a principal. She has no use for the books she has collected over the years and she gave them to me. It was like Christmas for me! I am excited to start my career as an educator.
Wish me luck tomorrow!

Playing with fire

Two nights ago Matt went about making iced tea. He put some water in a pot to boil and then left it.....

FOR TWO HOURS!

He returned to the kitchen to find the pot empty, glowing orange and burnt.

I understand that he is forgetful, but this is a serious problem! We could have set the house on fire, Norah could have jumped on the stove and burned herself!

I was asleep at the time and woke up to find Matt v. upset about the mishap. Hopefully it never happens again.

Married at last!

Matt and I have been married for nearly 4 weeks now and we are both LOVING it! Nothing has really changed, other than our "titles", but it is fun nevertheless. We have been so busy for the past month that we are both egar to take a weekend off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This weekend we have agreed to make no commitments! I am very excited and anticipate that it will be a wonderfully boring weekend.
Work was interesting today. A camper decided it would be a great idea to steal my keys and hide them in the field where no one could find them. After 20 minutes of desperate searching, he uncovered them from their hiding place beneath a pile of dead grass. Advenntures, adventures.
I ordered some wedding pictures from shutterfly.com last night! I can't wait until they arrive so that I can start scrapbooking!
Well, that is all the energy I have left. Hopefully I will write more often now that the wedding is over and things are calming down.
